DEAR FRIENDS OF EAGLE CREEK,
My name is Corey Feller. I am the PGA Professional at Eagle Creek Golf Club. I am writing to you today to request a donation for a very important cause at our club.
This past Easter Sunday our superintendent, Gene Van Liere, suddenly passed away from a heart attack. Gene’s passing was not only a terrible loss to our golf club, but also a terrible loss to his family, friends and community. Gene was a part of Eagle Creek since its very beginning. Eagle Creek is where it is today because of Gene’s hard work and dedication. We will always remember his legacy through our own hard work and dedication. Gene always used to say, “Always work hard, never give up.” This will be our motto as we grow this golf course in his honor.
Gene has a wonderful family who he appreciated with all his heart. He left a loving wife (Karen) and two boys
(Matthew and Jonathan). Since Gene’s passing it has been our goal at Eagle Creek to take care of the family in any way possible so that Matthew and Jonathan could continue as normal teenagers. Insurance has done a good job taking care of the family’s basic needs; however it does not take care of the boys’ college education.
For this reason, we have started the 1st Annual Gene Van Liere Memorial Golf Tournament in his name with all proceeds going to pay for Matthew and Jonathan’s college education. All money raised will go towards their tuition, books, room and board and other college needs. Once they have graduated from college, a scholarship will be set up in Gene’s name for other children who may not have a chance to go to college without a little help. The ownership at Eagle Creek Golf Club has graciously donated the course and carts for the day in his memory.
I am calling out to all of my fellow professionals, superintendents, vendors, friends, family, community businesses, and any other people that may have been touched by the life of Gene Van Liere to support Gene’s golf outing in any way possible. We are looking for donations of any kind, sponsorships, silent auction items, teams or any other way you can help our cause.
